Maui, Hawaii

The island of Maui, in Hawaii has stunning Rainbow Eucalyptus trees scattered all over the island. They are native to the Philippines, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, but can also be found in Hawaii. They are absolutely gorgeous, displaying a diversity of colors. After rain, the bark of these trees takes on a glossy shine, which looks pretty incredible.

I found this specific tree on my way to the Pipiwai Trail. It looked just too good to be true. Its branches reaching out, as if it was warning anybody not to intrude or trespass. There was quite some wind, so a lot of the foliage in the background is blurry, as if it is in motion. But this Rainbow Eucalyptus trees stands firm, fearless, brave! I love the contrast between the background and the subject.

As I was taking photos, still impressed by the stature of this tree, it reminded me of a Hawaiian warlord I had been reading about just days before. May its spirit live on forever.
