Fjallsárlón is a glacier lake at the south end of the Vatnajökull Glacier. The lake is filled with icebergs; large and small. No iceberg is alike, with many hundreds of different shapes and sizes floating lazily atop the water.
On this particular morning, the clouds were reflecting into the still water of the glacier lake. It was so quiet and peaceful. I stood there in awe for several hours, and not a sound could be heard. Suddenly, a large block of ice got detached from the glacier, and collapsed into the lake. After a few serene hours of photographing, this was a rather harsh wakeup call. I was reminded that nothing lasts forever. And even though this glacier has been around for over 100.000 years, it too might see its demise. If we do not take action to tackle our climate challenges, I am afraid this process will only accelerate. Mother Nature is almighty and powerful, but it is also vulnerable to the effects of global warming.
