Dettifoss, Iceland.

I spent a full day photographing Dettifoss in Iceland, considered the most powerful waterfall in Iceland. It is a true display of force. The landscape around these falls is harsh and unforgiving. There are old volcanic boulders and steep cliffs wherever you look.

Most photographs of Dettifoss show its unstoppable power. However, I wanted to capture a peaceful and intimate view of these falls. I returned to these falls at around 1am. The sun had just barely set in Iceland. I climbed down a steep and wet cliff and tried to get fairly close to the falls. I framed the shot so I could paint a more peaceful view of Dettifoss. It resembles a dreamscape, with enchanting soft light. At high and low latitudes, in summer, the sun just barely sets. It skimmers under the horizon, which can create beautiful light.

I can remember this night as if it was yesterday. It is one of those unforgettable experiences, that will stay with me forever. I was enchanted by Mother Nature, as if a dream was taking shape.
