Iceland.

Thingvellir is located in southwestern Iceland.  It is a site of historical, cultural and mainly geological significance.  It lies in a rift valley that marks the crest of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, and it is the boundary between the North American And Eurasian tectonic plates.

This image was taken at the very place where the two tectonic plates meet.  It is a special place, and it is what causes Iceland to be a geological wonder, full of volcanic activity.  You can see the edge of the tectonic plate in the image.  It is an amazing sight.

I had thought for many days on how to give this image a special feel and mood.  I kept breaking my head over how to do the place justice.  In the end I decided to photograph it during the day, using a darkening filter which would allow me to photograph with a long exposure.  This gave the photograph a surreal feel.  It deserved nothing less than that.

I was humbled to be at this cross-junction of continents.  This is where the ultimate forces of nature gathered and gave birth to amazing Iceland.
