About The Promised Land
Death Valley, California, USA.
Zabriskie Point – in Death Valley National Park – is one of most spectacular views on earth. To many early settlers, it was the final frontier. A place that held back many explorers on their journey west to the gold fields of California. Death Valley was that final stretch of unforgiving land that had to be traversed, before reaching greener, lush lands. During the gold rush many gave up their lives trying to cross Death Valley.
I photographed Zabriskie Point many times. However, on this particular November morning, I witnessed one of the most spectacular sunrises to date.
The sky above me transformed into a fiery reddish utopia. Far away in the distance you can see the Sierra Nevada, and behind that: The Promised Land. Lush and green California -which so many explorers yearned to reach after a long and unforgiving journey- was within sight.
