About Iron Boulders
Wilsons Promontory, Victoria, Australia.
Wilsons Promontory is a natural paradise. It is a fantastic place to find scenes with only few dominant colors.
I ventured off on a 3 day – 60km hike. I hauled all the camera equipment with me that I could possibly carry. It was a though hike. It was also an extremely rainy period, which is quite common for this place. On the second afternoon I setup camp near a river outlet. After my tent was setup I explored the area around and came across these magnificent boulders. They had just amazing colors. They stood the test of time. Thanks to the regular flooding of this inlet, they are painted with beautiful iron-colored patterns. I had a brief break from the relentless rain and managed to capture this photograph. I have seen several enlargements of it, and it looks simply stunning in a rustic interior at home.
Whenever I see this photograph it reminds me of the harsh 3 day hike. However, the spectacular landscapes and vistas make it all worthwhile. I consider myself very lucky, as on that same afternoon, I captured another winner; “The Afterlife”. It’s rare that I manage to return with 2 very strong photographs on the same day.
