About Iceland Dreamscape
Kirkjufell, Iceland.
Kirkjufell is another one of those awe-inspiring views in Iceland. In summer, Iceland has almost 24 hours of daylight. The Magic Hour, that timeframe when light conditions are soft and perfect for photography, can last for hours in Iceland, as the sun barely sets in summer. In most places closer to the equator, it lasts for 10-15 minutes only. The challenge however, is that on many days of the years it is completely overcast and there’s only a boring sky to photograph.
I had driven past this impressive rock formation at around 11pm. But the sky was dull and there was simply no color in the image. It was close to my accommodation. I had been up and running since 5am that day so I decided to call it a day and went to my room to finally get some sleep. I was ready to get into bed when I peeped out of my window. I noticed the clouds outside were starting to turn into something magnificent, so I rushed back to the very same place that had no spirit just 1,5hour ago. I ended up photographing from 12.30am to 2.30am.
The colors were splendid. A soft reddish glow filled the sky. And the green short grass took on a beautiful shine. It’s one of those views I can still vividly sense every time I look at this photograph. A true Icelandic Dreamscape.
