The road over Haast Pass, the southern gateway to the West Coast of New Zealand, is one of the most stunning in New Zealand. This trip offers a variety of landscapes; rainforest, white water rapids, lakes, wetlands and glacier-fed rivers.

Overwhelmed by the grand panoramas of this region, most visitors do not notice the magnificent blue pools. I do not believe that water can get much more pristine then it does here. It looks unreal! It’s best to photograph these pools on a cloudy day, when light is evenly balanced without disturbing highlights and lowlights. A cloudy day is not exactly difficult to come by on New Zealand’s South Island. It’s one of the wettest places on earth!
