About The Pinnacles
Nambung NP, Western Australia.
In Western Australia you will find Nambung National Park. It looks like a scene straight from a science fiction movie. It is truly surreal. Thousands of huge limestone pillars rise from the shifting yellow sands of this desert. Some of these pinnacles reach a height of up to 3.5 meters (12 ft). Up to today there is no official scientific explanation for what caused the creation of these unique limestone pillars.
I took this photograph in late afternoon sunlight, when the sun’s angle would create captivating shadows in the sand. I had to find that ideal spot to photograph from. And obviously I had to ensure I wouldn’t have stepped into sand, if it were to be a part of the composition. This would ruin the shot. So backtracking was not an option. I am always very critical about the composition. I just wasn’t 100% satisfied, and frantically kept scouting for that perfect spot. Time was working against me as the sun was setting swiftly. About 30 minutes before sunset I found a place I was completely happy with. I pressed the shutter. Mission Accomplished!
