I have been trying to capture this image for a while now. The sun’s first direct rays, right behind Gibson Steps.

You have only a couple of minutes a day to shoot this. And when photographing with film there is little margin for error. A wrongly calculated exposure and it’s all lost. You can’t immediately view the result. Click the shutter too early and you get a dark image, press it too late and the strong direct sunlight will ruin your photograph. Too many clouds and there are no direct rays. The list goes on. If you don’t’ manage to capture it; you’ll have to face another early rise at some ridiculous hour.

It took me several early mornings to capture this image. But as you can see I struck gold on this particular occasion.
