About Thule
Fjallsárlón, Iceland.
I will never forget the display of colors surrounding the Fjallsárlón glacier lake. It was 3.30am, and the sun was about to rise. The clouds around me were reflected into the glacier lake. And they turned into magenta first, pink next, …and finally white. It is a display of changing colors; known to those landscape photographers that are willing to wake up early, and photograph at first light.
As I was pressing the shutter, I kept reminding myself to soak up this beautiful feeling, as I was certain it would not last long at all. However, the further you travel from the equator, the longer this colorful spectacle takes. Iceland is far north, and in ancient Greek, it used to be referred to as “Thule”; supposed to be the most northerly region of the world. The sun glides across the horizon for a longer time, before finally rising. That is; when it does rise. Iceland is often covered in clouds, for many days on end. During my trip to Iceland I was blessed with several beautiful days which allowed me to capture these colourful shows.
