"The Thurra sand dunes in Croajingolong National Park are simply massive. It is difficult to get a feel of how big they are, until you start climbing them. They are very isolated and there are virtually no images or maps available of this place. So I did most of my research via Google Earth. I must admit that hiking up these dunes is one of the more exhausting undertakings I've done in a long time. Sand dunes, made out of fine sand can be very uninviting. I was hoping to get shots of the surrounding forests and ocean at sunset. The views up there are breathtaking. However, when arriving at the highest point, conditions were horrible. Strong winds, and fine sand being blown all over the place. It was virtually impossible to expose any images. Quite frustrated, on my way down I realized that this was a failed attempt and was planning a possible return. However, during a brief moment without any wind, I just managed to capture this abstract view of soft evening light, caressing the dunes. Seen the hostile circumstances, I couldn't have wished for a better shot. The softness of the light and the strong lines make this a very powerful abstract image." Boris Mar |
